We have been singing together since 2021, and we love singing and growing together as a choir. We sing, largely acapella, four part songs, many of which are representative of our LGBTQ+ community. As a choir, we strive to be accessible to everyone that identifies as a member of our community, and we have forged links with local LGBTQ+ Asylum seeker and Refugee charities, and LGBTQ+ charities and fund places for members that would otherwise struggle to join us.

Our ethos
At Singing Proud Nottingham supporting the LGBTQ+ community is central to everything we do. We recognise that we are a diverse group, having different experiences and some of us may have been negatively affected by the society we live in.We believe that everyone in the choir and its community should be treated with civility, respect and kindness regardless of gender, sexual orientation, sex, gender affirmation, race, religion, culture, class, age, citizenship status or ability.
Some members may be affected by intersectionality (more than one kind of oppression) and many have experienced a great deal of negativity in our lives. Assumptions should never be made as to others’ experiences.
We wish to be an inclusive, open and trusted place. To help each other feel safe and valued we will strive to: -
- Treat each other with respect and kindness
- Use appropriate language to the best of our understanding
- Avoid favouring any one lived experience over another
- Learn from one another’s experiences
- Tackle unconscious bias
We will all have some things in common, we love to sing and there will also be experiences that we do not share or even understand about each other, but we will strive to be allies for each other.
Inevitably, we will all fail at times, not intentionally but as part of our learning process, therefore we encourage individuals to address issues with kindness, compassion and honesty, this can be done directly between each other or through the committee, so that we may all learn and continue to improve our awareness.
This is an ongoing shared responsibility and core to Singing Proud’s ethos.
